Story Doing
Objectives: a) forms of water
b) clear communication
Materials needed: cards displaying character names like Tinku, Pinku, Sun, cloud, rain, river, mountain.
Classroom is set so that when night occurs, room becomes dark and when sunlight comes, slowly the room becomes bright. Each kid is given one character and the story is enacted by them with lot of interactions.
Tinku & Pinku were two ice cubes living on the mountain Himalaya. They were two great friends. (What is a great friend mean?) There was another boy "Surya Dev" who was disliked by these two. (Why anybody dislike someone? What are the reasons to dislike someone?) As soon as Surya dev came up in the sky, there was a competition between Surya dev & Tinku-Pinku that who is the strongest among them? ( How does one feel strong?) Since the Sun was shining bright, what happened?
The two were melted down and became water and ran down the mountain forming a Tinku-Pinku waterfall and joined the river Ganga. (What is a river? How does it look like? Is it still or flowing? Have you seen a river or a water fall? Name some of the rivers you have heard of.)
Surya dev was still shining bright in the sky and heated the water in the river. Water started evaporating in the form of steam in which Tinku-Pinku were present. (What is steam? Where have you seen it? What are its uses? Have you sensed steam sometime while having cold & throat infection , while taking bath?
)
Then Surya Dev went to another part of the Earth. (The Sun set .) How does day and night occur? Where will the Sun go in the evening? What is the reason behind day and night?
The weather became very cool and Tinku-Pinku who were in the form of steam started condensing into water droplets and they formed clouds. Due to cool breeze, the clouds started moving and they joined a group of clouds and they came across a mountain. They stopped there and became heavy and came down as rain. How are rains formed? What are the effects of Sunshine on water bodies? How does it help in getting rain? What are the roles of forests, mountains in getting rain?
(effects of forestation has to be discussed)
Now Tinku-Pinku were down to earth as rain water and due to cold weather they further condensed to form ice and they lived happily till the next morning Sunshine. How is ice formed? What are the effects of weather on the forms of water?
Through the story, the concepts of day & night, forestation, effects of weather on the forms of water are explored.
